5 Places To Notice Life Force

The amazingly simple but powerful book, A New Earth, by Eckhart Tolle, has been sweeping the nation, especially since Oprah announced it as her new book club focus. She’s been holding live teleclasses every Monday evening for the past five weeks. There are five more classes left.
The essence of the book has to deal with noticing when the ego is prevalent, and becoming “present” in the now, letting go of the attachment to and identification with ego. Throughout the book numerous examples are given for when and how this is necessary. One of the simplest ways to become “present” and recognize the separation of Yourself from the ego is to implore your senses throughout the day. The five senses provide you with different pathways or observation points where you can become the observer of this life that You are expressing “for a little while,” as Eckhart Tolle would say.The sense of sight:
Eckhart uses the example of a flower to help you get back in touch with the “present.” He suggests removing the label of “flower” the next time you look at one. Begin to really take in the sight of the color, the shape and the size of it. See it without any reference to “memory,” simply discovering and enjoying the stillness of the life in the item itself. This can be done with other objects of nature, especially different plants.
The sense of hearing:
Another place to tune into “presence” is through listening to your surroundings. Even while you’re in the car, you can safely notice the gentle hum of the motor. A baby’s laugh always brings me into the “now.” Many advanced audio products for subliminal programming insert certain sound waves under soothing and calming sounds of birds chirping, raindrops, a breeze and one of many people’s favorites, the ocean. Be still and begin to take in the auditory sense of “now” in your space.
The sense of taste:
Many people find so much pleasure in food because of the stimulating sense of taste. Imagine the rush of joy and pleasure you can experience when you taste an amazing dish for the first time. Instead of woofing down your food to quickly satisfy the sensation of hunger, take the time to chew and explore the flavors that intertwine with the beginning digestive process. Be present.
The sense of smell:
Along with the sense of taste, when it comes to food, the sense of smell can begin the process of enjoyment of the meal or of a nice glass of wine. What about the scents of your soap when you’re bathing, or how the scent of newly laundered linens delights you? How do you feel when your loved one gives you a hug and their applied fragrance leaves a lingering scent on your top that you smell throughout the day? Again, be present.
The sense of touch:
Whether you’re receiving or giving a massage, the sense of touch can actually allow you to share Life force between you and someone else–A very powerful encounter. The next time you feel chilly, take a moment to quietly and gently put your hands together. You can begin to generate heat in your palms. Your hands can heat up like a warm handkerchief. Once they are warm, put them against your cheeks and watch how the rest of your body begins to warm up.
Of course, many of these experiences happen simultaneously, but you can pick one to focus on while practicing detaching from the ego and stepping into more “now” moments. This is how you begin to live a more healthy, balance, full, stress-free life. Try it on and see how tension, anxiety and fear begin to melt away.
