Law of Attraction: Disconnect to Reconnect

Published by Megan on Tagged Basic Information, Tools & Tips

DisconnectOne of the most humbling experiences that can MAKE you slow down and stop for just a second is when technology fails you! Man! I think it’s safe to speak for many people and express that we have become so dependant and attached to our gadgets, devices, smart-everything’s and data-lords, that we forget what it’s like to really connect with warm bodies and voices!

Over the past six days, I’ve been without my cell phone and away from my computer often. My cell phone is quirky, and a new one is on order through the insurance company. My time has been consumed with face to face meetings with clients of my various services, so I couldn’t be stuck behind the computer monitor, where at times I thought I really should be. I was beginning to feel distressed because I knew there were so many things that “I HAD to do….,” yeah right…. So I thought. Once I realized that the things that seemed urgent weren’t going anywhere, no one was dying, and no one figured I was dying, I was able to let go of the reigns and start to enjoy the organics of life again.

My virtual “to-do” list, relaxed some… the calendar was put on hold (just a tad), emails got answered a bit later but not too late, and those important messages went to voicemail. Nothing went awry as I figured it would, being without my phone for this long. Amazing! It was eye-opening and a relief to feel as if the world doesn’t stop, no time or money is lost, and all is well without the computer working ideally or the phone being gone altogether. I changed my thoughts from being “without” and “missing or losing out” to being “available and free” for what better and fulfilling things the Law of Attraction would bring to me. Instead of being miserable, frustrated and blown, I was energized, happy and excited for the exploration of once familiar territory.

This has taught me to disconnect sometimes to reconnect with myself and physical space beyond my tunnel of technology. Since I work from home, when I want to do things to free my mind and spirit, I need to leave my home. I used to practice Yoga in the living room, but I would keep the phone nearby, and in the next room, I could hear my email notifications coming through the computer. I would try to clear my head to meditate, but I would then remember a new topic for an article and would feel the need to get it out at that moment. I now either go to the beach or to the gym to practice….I have to disconnect to reconnect.

Since not having the phone, I’ve actually felt more freedom and less pressure to be accessible at all times. It has given me control over my space and has allowed me room to explore other people outside of the internet and SMS messaging! As a result, I’ve gotten more gigs doing styling and make-up artistry…something I absolutely LOVE doing!!!!…and the doors just keep opening in this area! Had I been tied to machines, spending an entire day on a video set with the constant interruption of calls, emails and text messages would have disrupted the flow of energy and attention to the artist. As a result, she was very pleased with my work and is looking forward to more engagements in the future. It was about her and my focus for her artistic presentation. It felt good!

And it just keeps getting better from here.

So, I’m going to make it a practice to disconnect from time to time. Turn off the cell phone, shut down the computer and take a walk. Get some sunshine and leave the gadget at home. Make a run to the store and leave the Blackberry on the kitchen counter.

Just take a sec to reconnect with self. The gadgets and important messages will be there when you get back. Time is no issue. The world doesn’t stop or slow down, but you can, your perception will, and by virtue of the Law of Attraction, everything will still work in your favor as long as you feel good about it!

Wow Megan, what a great article! We as a society think we can NOT live without our technology & I, for one, am very happy to know that the world continues on as it always had. :-) Too many times we give up what is REALLY important so that we can be TIED to our gadgets & now I will certainly be more aware of how I spend my time- thanks to you! Keep up the great articles, Megan & thanks again for the reality check!
